Toy to teach Devanagari Conjuncts to children
In Maharashtra Marathi is a common subject taught in Marathi and Semi English medium schools. Children are introduced to ‘Mulakshare’ that is Basic letters in Ist standard and Conjuncts in IInd standard. In schools they practice to read the conjuncts by rote learning. As the conjuncts has different variations and complexity of the form it gets difficult for the children to understand the logic behind the concept of conjuncts. So, the idea behind this is to come up with a Learning Toy which can help children learn Marathi conjuncts. The learning toy child should be able to learn the Marathi conjuncts with the engagement and fun. User studies and literature review was done to understand the problem closely.
To solve the problem of conjunct learning – The game was designed to make children understand the idea behind halant (half letter) and consonants and their formation in conjuncts. The game includes cards where children can play with them to form given pair of conjuncts but at the same time he/she can block the opponent to make their pair. In the game, learning happens in background game play interest the students to play it again.
