Ratio and Proportion book
This project was an attempt to break the barriers of the book language of the existing maths curriculum and provide children with a supportive medium using real life scenarios. The prime approach was to provide them a secondary level of information which can coexist with the school curriculum by the use of elements from the child’s environment. The chapters created are interesting, exciting and practical at the same time. The larger view of the project was to deal with the understanding of maths and the use of different levels of language in textbooks for children. However the solution is focused on one topic that is ratio and proportion.
Design strategies that were applied:
1) The elements used are in outlines enabling children to provide free space to doodle them freely.
2)The black and white color enables xerox clear visibility and can be effective in rural schools.
3) The book is divided into chapters. This enables the teacher to shuffle and teach through various games and group activities.
4) The characters are inspired from the maths concept (Ratio hero and Fear of maths ghost)
Target Audience: 10 to 11yr olds.
