Developmental aids for children with cerebral palsy

The project deals with designing low cost medical devices which helps children to strengthen muscles and contend cerebral palsy.

The project was done as an internship in ‘Mobility India’, Bangalore, A NGO which is a rehabilitation center for those who cannot walk.

During the internship various design opportunities were found and the most prominent opportunity was addressed.

One important need was to develop low cost devices for children suffering from cerebral palsy, after parallel product study and user study two variants of developmental aids were built and tested on users.

The USP of the products:

  • One device does the function of two existing devices, which are the device acts as chair cum standing frame.
  • Affordable product– due to material optimization, the cost of the product was reduced to nearly half when compared to he existing costs.
  • Has customization/adjustable features, hence the products grows as the child grows.

A working prototype was developed during the internship and is currently being sold in the market.
