An illustrated History

We have always learnt history in solid rigid patterns where we were forced to remember dates, chronology, events and names of characters. I always wondered how can something as simple as storytelling become so difficult for me? And this question stayed with me for a long time. When I came across a situation in last semester where I realised that my batchmates learn subjects and knowledge without knowing the history of it, I suffered a great shock. Hence, I took it as an opportunity to make a significant but a difference in the learning of Design history for my batchmates and my juniors in the field of Art and Design. This project maps a journey of my study on the current scenario of learning to learning design history. After marking the landmarks that changed the design scenario of India, I figured out the most important and lesser known ones. Followed by arranging of the historical events in order to my 1st attempt at writing a story. I learned the methods of storytelling, narrating an event with emotion and illustrating it.

Poems in itself are carriers of messages. And different authors can write poems in different ways. Usually reading poems is mostly going through each and every line and understanding the mood and message of the poem. This project tends to explore the visual representation of a poem that depicts the overall message in a single glance. We have restrained ourselves to use only the colour black and a single font with different variations. My personal motivation for this project was my love for poems that depict the current situation of the society. When I read modern poems and relate to it personally, it gives me visions of different animals, shapes and colours. Hence I used this opportunity to give shape to visualising poems in a typographic way.
