Crumbling Mountains, Mighty Women

Crumbling Mountains, Mighty Women

“Crumbling Mountains, Mighty Women - A tale of sisterhood from the sinking city of Joshimath” is a short documentary film that tries to capture the human story of the native Pahadi women who are facing eviction from their homes due to the threat to their lives imposed by the unstable land that they have generationally inhabited. While a lot of the sinking of Joshimath is attributed to it being located on a seismically active zone, it has been accelerated in recent years due to unchecked and extractive human activities in the region. The brunt of this is borne, as per usual, by the most marginalised of people in the region and the documentary is an attempt at including them in the discourse that they are directly affected by.

“Those Who Bleed: Throwing a brick at the cisnormative narrative of periods” is a series of pamphlets created to promote awareness about all people from across the gender spectrum who menstruate. It addresses possible questions people may have within the context of gender and menstruation, such as what gender dysphoria is, what cis-heteronormativity is, questions around period stigma, and how those of us in the design field can reconsider the design and the visual language of period products which tend to be very ‘feminine coded’. The pamphlets also aim to raise awareness about the gender-binary worldview societally enforced upon us and empathise with the humanity of people from across the spectrum. Each pamphlet is accompanied by an illustration unique to the topic, drawn in an easy-to-interpret and vibrant style.
