Baccha Chor is a 2D animated film on urban wildlife in cities. The film promotes the idea
of peacefully co-existing with the wild animals that dwell secretly amongst humans. ‘Bham
biral’ or ‘Khattash’ is the local term for an Asian Palm Civet in Bengal. These animals dwell
in the rafters of old colonial buildings in Kolkata. Unfortunately due to their nocturnal and
shy nature, people make up stories about them to scare children. One such story is that
civets break into houses at night and steal babies. This film aims to tackle such rumors by
portraying the civet in its true harmless nature. My biggest challenge was to urge my
audiences to empathize with and break their pre-existing myths about a creature they
don’t understand.

This is the story of an unusual friendship between a dog who was unloved by all and a ghost
boy who was invisible to all. Friendships carve and morph us into challenging ourselves and our rigid perspectives.
In this tale, a stray dog is too nervous to accept food from a boy owing to his anxious disposition. However, when
the boy sacrifices his life to save the dog’s, a peculiar thing happens. The boy comes back as a sad and lonely ghost,
who cannot be seen by anyone. The dog, though living, lives an invisible life where he is chased away from everywhere.
However, he is the only one who can see the ghost of the boy. The ghost boy slowly gains the dog's trust by stealing food for him.
The film ends with the beginning of their unusual friendship, which did not form in life, but rather after death. Watch the short film here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddjq552T46Y&ab_channel=SagarikaDam
