what lies within..

Not all great men are super heroes. Some are just heroes. And the might these people carry make you forget for a while that they are merely fictional. Being inspired by Sherlock and Byomkesh Bakshi, I chose to make an animation film on crime and investigation. Detectives are clever people and your body action is enough for them to figure out ‘What’s fishy ?”
The two main characters in my animation film “Khoj” are the detective and the client. The case that is brought before the sleuth, actually changes him as a person. The entire story is based on the theme of
“ The case solving the detective rather than the detective solving the case. “

From the different versions of the characters drawn in 2d, I chose some features and incorporated into my final character. Creating the character in 3d was an interesting process. I drew the character from the front view and the side view. And using these image as reference planes in my 3d space, I began with the 3d modelling process. I started with a 2d surface (a square) and then began extruding the edges one by one to make the 3d model match the image references. Eventually, I wanted to have a low poly style for my animation film.

Once the script and the dialogues got freezed, I created the storyboard for the entire film. The storyboard helped in visualizing the shots in particular scenes of the film. After modelling the 3d characters, I rigged them. Rigging required a lot of time and patience. It was the most complicated step in the production of the film. Having a low poly style for my film wasn’t enough because the look and the feel was not to be compromised. So, I tried enhancing the visual appeal of the film by working on the lights and the ambience of the 3d space.
