Craft Documentation of Sabai Grass Craft

The most abundant product of Sabai is still the rope.

The dried grass is dipped in water to make it pliable and then it is swiftly twisted into ropes.

The hand-twisted ropes are tightened by the machine and smoothed out on tree branches. Bundles of 1kg of rope are graded and ready for the market.

Since the demand for ropes in general was reducing, there needed to be some way of adding value to them. This is where design intervention came in. Sabai grass was introduced into the craft industry.
