One-Stop solution for harvesting and transplanting of rice
India, a country where 17% of world population lives has several challenges, and providing food security to the growing population is of prime importance. A research into the Indian agricultural sector reveals the distribution of the sector and the associated challenges with the changing trends in the society in various aspects. Being a country with 65.54% of famer household operating under 1 hectare and delivering a major share to the national crop out, this marginal size sector demands for more attention as the sector is under crisis due to labour shortage, economical problems, crop losses, slow pace of mechanization etc.
Considering this scenario, a detailed user research is carried in the ‘food production deficit’ state of Kerala with the marginal rice farmers. Based on this extensive user research, the current project attempts to deliver a solution to sustain the rice farming community of Kerala by bridging the gap between the users and their requirements. The key challenge here is to deliver a solution to maximize the profit from farming through appropriate mechanization for the seasonal crop, rice, grown in land holdings less than 1 hectare.
